About Therapy

Do you envision therapy to be sitting on a couch…

… and telling your life story?

The movies do horrible injustice to what actually goes on in our office!

Yeah, we will make you talk, but we promise to try to avoid asking, “How does that make you feel?”

Therapy is about being the best version of you…

…for you and your relationships.

We steal from all the great therapy teachers to meet you where you are, which means we will use talking, playing, skill-building, sensations, and a host of other methods to refine our techniques to make therapy a good fit for you.

One main approach we use is a family systems approach. You are the expert on yourself and your family. As your therapists, we’ll guide you and help you sort through your experiences.

We believe no person can be understood without the context of the various systems of they they are parts, such as family work and other areas.

We focus on a very collaborative approach…

… and recognize that this is your session.

You drive the focus of our work together and tell us what is important to you. We do not want to add problems if you don’t see them that way, so it is very important that you decide what to emphasize and what you want to work on.

If you are ever stuck and don’t know where or how to move forward, we will help you figure it out. We are never there to take over.

We also appreciate feedback in sessions! We want to know what’s working and what’s not working. Therapy is your time and investment, and we want to help you and your family achieve your desired outcomes and goals.

The first step is the hardest.

But once you choose, we’ll be there with you the rest of the way – helping, guiding, and supporting you.
